About Terrence Phearse

 

Terrence Phearse is a Ph.D. Student and Driskell Fellow at The Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts studying Philosophy, Aesthetics and Art Theory. He is an inaugural David C. Driskell fellow at The Driskell Center, University of Maryland College Park. His scholarship focuses on phenomenology, hermeneutics, and genealogy of African-American photography as a means for articulating and negotiating self-consciousness, recognition, and imagination through the study of modern philosophy. He serves as Chief of Staff at the Studio Museum in Harlem and former Exhibitions Manager at Fotografiska New York. He is also Contributing Editor at Musee Magazine where he has interviewed artists: Ajamu X, Rashaad Newsome and Jeff Wall amongst others. He earned two Master of Arts degrees, both with Distinction, first from The University of Westminster, London in Photography, followed by Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London in Culture, Criticism and Curation. He has a Bachelor of Science from the Fashion Institute of Technology.
