About Terrence Phearse

 

Terrence Phearse is a PhD Candidate at the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts and serves as the Chief of Staff at the Studio Museum in Harlem. Phearse’s research interests are in African American photography, metaphysics and existential phenomenology. He also serves on the Editorial Council at Museums Moving Forward. Phearse previously was a Curator and Exhibitions Manager at Fotografiska New York and Editor-at-Large of Musée Magazine. In 2023, he was named an inaugural Archives Research Fellow at The Driskell Center, University of Maryland College Park. Phearse earned two international Master of Arts degrees, both with distinction—first from the University of Westminster, London, in photography, followed by Central Saint Martins in culture, criticism, and curation. He has served on panels, juries, and portfolio reviews and presented lectures at the Essen Center for Photography, Columbia University, Harvard University, Central Saint Martins, University of Westminster, Wimbledon College of Arts, Sotheby’s Institute of Art, and the International Center for Photography. He holds an undergraduate degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology.
